Vibe Radar in your browser

An extension for Chrome, Edge and Brave that tells you, on the SaaS site you are looking at, what it costs, whether you can rebuild it and what you can use for free instead.

Download the extension (.zip)

Version 1.0.0 · Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers

What it does

When you open a site that is in the Vibe Radar catalog, such as canva.com or notion.so, the Vibe Radar icon in the toolbar lights up. On every other site it stays grey. Click it and a small panel opens with what Vibe Radar knows about that product.

What the panel shows

  • The verdict: buildable in one session, buildable with caveats, or better to subscribe, with the reasoning and the time a do-it-yourself version takes.
  • The price per month and per year in your currency (US dollar, euro, pound, real, rupee, yen, Canadian and Australian dollar, Mexican peso), the dollar original underneath and the date the price was checked.
  • The latest price changes, marked up or down.
  • The best free and open-source alternatives, with links.
  • Buttons to the full Vibe Radar page and to the official pricing page.
  • When several products share one site (adobe.com, proton.me, zoho.com), a short list to pick from.

How to install

Until the store listing is live, the extension installs in developer mode. It takes about a minute.

  1. Download the zip above and unzip it into a folder you will keep. The browser loads the extension from that folder, so do not delete it.
  2. Open the extensions page: type chrome://extensions in the address bar (edge://extensions in Edge, brave://extensions in Brave).
  3. Turn on Developer mode (top-right corner in Chrome and Brave, left sidebar in Edge).
  4. Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder, the one that contains manifest.json.
  5. Open the puzzle-piece menu and pin Vibe Radar so the icon stays in the toolbar.

To update, download the new zip, replace the folder contents and click the reload arrow on the Vibe Radar card of the extensions page.

Privacy

  • It only runs when you click its icon. There are no content scripts: it never reads or changes the pages you visit.
  • Whether the icon lights up is decided by your browser, locally, from a list of catalog domains bundled into the extension. Nothing is sent while you browse.
  • When you click, it sends only the site’s hostname (for example notion.com) to Vibe Radar: no full address, no path, no cookies.
  • It cannot see your browsing history and keeps no list of the sites you looked up. Your currency choice is stored in your browser.

Chrome Web Store

A Chrome Web Store listing, with automatic updates, will come later. Until then, the developer-mode install above is the way in.
