Should you build your own GetWaitlist?
Email capture with a referral counter
Email capture with a referral counter. This site's waitlist was built exactly this way; it took one prompt.
ENOriginal research content in English. Original prompt preserved in English.
Build me a waitlist signup system like GetWaitlist. Requirements:
- A drop-in signup form (one HTML snippet I can paste into any landing page):
email field + submit, posting to /api/waitlist.
- Server stores emails in SQLite with created_at, referral_code (short unique
slug per signup), and referred_by. Dedupe by email, honeypot field for bots,
rate-limit by IP.
- After signup, show the user their position in line and a personal referral
link (?ref=CODE). Each signup arriving via their link moves them up 5 spots ·
recompute position as base_position minus 5 × referrals.
- A /admin page (basic-auth from .env): count, growth chart drawn with a tiny
inline SVG (no chart libraries), CSV export, delete button per row.
- No third-party services, no client-side JS frameworks. Node or Python, one
process, deploy instructions for a VPS behind a reverse proxy. The prompt opens pre-filled in your agent. Review it before running.
What would building your own look like?
xtheir referral-widget templates
xbuilt-in email blasts to the list
xspam filtering you didn't tune yourself
Nothing worth pointing at. That’s why the prompt exists.

Is it cheaper to build or buy GetWaitlist?
Adjust the numbers: hours to build, your hourly rate, running costs and the subscription price.
Over 24 months, subscribing is cheaper.
Starting hours estimated from the analysis (one sitting). Does not price what you give up (support, integrations, security).
Can I rebuild GetWaitlist / LaunchList?
Yes. A competent AI coding agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) can build a usable personal GetWaitlist / LaunchList replacement in one session with the prompt on this page. It runs on your own machine or server with no subscription.
How much does GetWaitlist / LaunchList cost?
GetWaitlist / LaunchList costs about $15/mo (the paid plan, checked 10/20/2026), which is $180 per year. That’s what you save by replacing it with one prompt.
What do I lose by replacing GetWaitlist / LaunchList?
Honestly: their referral-widget templates; built-in email blasts to the list; spam filtering you didn't tune yourself. If any of those are load-bearing for you, keep paying.
Is there an open-source alternative to GetWaitlist / LaunchList?
No mature open-source alternative worth pointing at, which is exactly why the one-shot prompt on this page exists.
